My Collection of playing cards - Greetings

Here's my first set of playing cards on the topic: Greetings.

These cards can be used as mini-flashcards to help learning new vocabulary/ structures, or as normal playing cards to revise words.
It's important that each student has it's own set. They can add their initials at the top corner so that they can organize and keep their own materials after playing.
The big HIT you can let your students play with these card is "peixinho" I don't know the equivalent name in English but this game consists on: shuffling the cards on the table, each student picks 4 random cards and the objective is to get groups of 4 equal cards by asking other players for the cards in need.
I believe that students should take an active part in what comes to making some of the teaching/learning materials that's why these playing cards (and the following ones) aren't "ready-to-use". They need to be coloured, cut, and the words need to be traced before students can use them to play.

Have fun! and Keep up the Teaching-Frenzy :)

First day of Autumn 2015 - Awesome Mobiles

Today is the first day of Autumn. This is my favourite season of the year. Its yellows, reds, oranges and browns bring me a warm peaceful feeling. When Autumn comes Nature allows itself to rest after a super demanding Spring and an ultra busy Summer!

Many years ago I made this leaf mobile with my students. It's a simple idea and it brings Nature into the classroom.
Today, I've decided to do a bit of research on mobiles and I found so many wonderful ones that I even felt ashamed of my poor little one here:

Here are some of the examples I'm talking about with the corresponding links to the blogs and websites I took them from:

Let me finish off with my favourite one! This is marvelous! I can imagine how much fun it would bring the kids searching for leaves and finally making the mobile :D

Action Cards (Part 1)

Last month, I wrote about laminating flashcards. By that time, I was doing some experiments with these new cards. They are action cards (18 in part 1) which I used to help my students notice how many different activities they were doing in  class. Because I wanted the cards to be as flexible as possible, I added two sentences at the bottom of each one; one in the present continuous and one in the simple past, this way, I can use the same cards with older students for different purposes.

Here's an example:
In Part 1 you'll find flashcards for the following activities:
  • Read / Copy
  • Sing / Count
  • Win / Listen to a story
  • Play / Send a letter
  • Play games / Watch a puppet show
  • Do experiments / Drink water
  • Observe the stars / Investigate
  • Colour / Do arts and crafts
  • Dance / Draw

Some of the activities might sound a bit strange, I chose them based on the activities I had planned for a summer course I taught.

I hope it's useful.

Part 2 will be posted ASAP!

September - Binder / notebook divider

Some teachers, like myself, like organizing their students' work by months. Here's a little help:

I'm planning on posting a new one every month. Be free to nag me if I forget!
